AP Calculus

AP Calculus is a two semester course and covers the topics normally associated with college-level Calculus I and II.  Students must attain a grade of 85 or higher for the first semester to advance to the second semester.  Students who do not receive an 85 or higher will be awarded honors credit for the course.  All students will take the AP Calculus (BC) examination in order to receive course credit.

The primary text for the course is Calculus (3rd Ed.), Hughes-Hallett, et al.  Supplementary texts include Calculus, Finney, Thomas, Waits, & Kennedy; Calculus, Ostebee & Zorn; Calculus: Early Transcendentals, Anton, Bivens & Davis; and Calculus, Foerster.  During the course review we also use Multiple-Choice & Free-Response Questions in Preparation for the AP Calculus (BC) Examination (6th ed.), Lederman.

Students are required to have their own graphing calculator (TI-83, TI-83 Plus, or TI-89).

Course standards are established by the College Board and can be found at www.collegeboard.org/ap/calculus/ (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader).

AP Calculus grades will be based upon chapter tests, weekly tests, journals, homework, projects and midterm examinations.  Midterm examinations will count 25% of each 6-week term grade.  Additionally, a Calculus Portfolio will be submitted at the end of each 6-week term.  All grades are posted to E-Grades as soon as they are computed whereupon electronic progress reports are sent to parents with valid email addresses in E-Grades.
