Honors precalculus
Honors Precalculus is a one semester course and covers the topics normally associated with preparing students for a college level course in Calculus. As an honors course it will be rigorous. Students enrolled in this course should be capable of operating at the honors level and willing to work at the honors level.
The primary text for the course is Precalculus, Springboard.
Students should have their own graphing calculator (TI-83, TI-84).
Course standards are established by the state of North Carolina and can be found at www.rss.k12.nc.us/rssys/Documents/ElemEd/SCSMATH.pdf. All students are required to take the North Carolina Final Exam in Precalculus at the end of the course.
Precalculus grades will be based upon tests, quizzes, portfolios, 6-week exams and the NC Final Exam. The Precalculus Portfolio will be submitted at the end of each chapter and is not optional. Students who fail to submit a portfolio will receive a course grade of Incomplete which will be removed if and when the portfolio is submitted. All grades will be posted to PowerSchool as soon as they are computed. Additional information concerning the course is contained in "How to Succeed in Mr. Mayo's Precalculus Class."
